The World’s most popular Internet Search Engine, Google, has knocked the BBC off the top spot as the UK’s favourite brand. The online giant came first in Superbrands’ annual survey of the UK’s top names, ahead of BP and Microsoft. The BBC came third in the poll, based on the views of 1,500 professionals. The broadcaster came first last year. Google, launched as a private company in 1998, is the one of the the only two firms in the top 50 established after 1990, eBay being the other. Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the Superbrands Council, said; “The top 10 is dominated by companies who are either British stalwarts such as BA and BP, or like GlaxoSmithKline can trace their origins to the UK.”
