Yandex.com, Russia’s version of Google, floated today in another huge IPO. You can read all about the Yandex IPO here.
Yandex offers a search engine which is tailored for the Russian language and provides a much better search experience for Russian searchers.
It is now much more than just an index of websites though. Much like Google, Yandex now offers Image search, Music search (something which Google does not offer) and has e-payment systems, real time traffic reports and a social network for both professionals and personal use.
Also its business directory offers premium listings for small businesses and to further aid small and medium enterprises Yandex has Yandex.Start which helps build business networks. In some ways it seems more professional that Google in that it has really targeted the professional community much sooner than Google did.
