The Queen has just been honoured with being the first member of the Royal Family, possibly the first member of any Royal Family, to feature on the Google homepage.
The Queen will be visiting Google’s British head quarters in London, where she will meet Nikesh Arora, the president of Google’s Europe, Middle East and Africa operations, as well as key UK staff.
They will see a series of presentations to explain Google’s operations, and will also meet the schoolchildren who won a competition to design new “doodles” for Google. Google Doodles are the images which Google sometimes show on their homepage as part of the logo.
The Queen has always been keen to stay up to date with technology, and sent her first email when she visited an army base in 1976. In 1997 the Queen launched the official royal website and in 2006 she made her annual Christmas message available for download as a podcast. Last Christmas she launched a dedicated royal channel on YouTube which now contains 54 royal videos and has been visited by 1.6m people.
