Securing an Invite to Pinterest

You probably already have accounts at Facebook and Twitter, but getting an account set up at Pinterest takes a little work because you cannot just go to the site and sign up. Pinterest requires all of their members to either be invited by other members or sign up on the site to request an invitation.

What is Pinterest

Pinterest is a way to organize and share recipes, wedding ideas, organization options and almost any other information you can find online using pictures. Pinterest started in 2009, but wasn’t open to the public until 2011. It is now one of the hottest sites on the internet.

Requesting an Invite

There are three main ways to request an invite to join Pinterest.
*Request an invite on the site
*Ask family and friends for an invite
*Ask for a Pinterest invite at pinterestinvite.org

Requesting Invitation Through Pinterest

Many people who hear about Pinterest check out the website and click the link to request an invite. This is one way to be invited, but it is by far the slowest. Some people who requested invites straight from the site months ago have yet to receive them. If you go this route, make sure that your email address is correct and don’t be in a hurry because it is unlikely that you will receive your invite quickly.

Asking Family and Friends

Most people know at least one person who already has a Pinterest account. It is a good idea to start by asking the person who told you about Pinterest to email you an invite. If they are unable to invite you, you may want to ask your friends on Facebook, Google+ or Twitter. Odds are that someone on your friends list won’t mind sending you an invite. You may even get advice about using Pinterest and a good idea of how many of your friends are using the site. Don’t forget to invite others after you have created your account. It is always good to return the favor and help others who haven’t joined yet.

Asking on Your Favorite Blog

Most people who use the internet regularly have at least a couple of blogs they read regularly. If none of your friends have been able to secure an invite to Pinterest yet other people who read the same blogs as you may be able to help. It is a good idea to delete your email address from the blog as soon as you receive the invite so that you don’t end up with a bunch of unwanted emails from people who copied your address. It is also smart to have some idea about the person who is sending you the invite because they could send you a virus and make it look like a legitimate invite.

There haven’t been any Pinterest invite scams reported, but Google+ has seen scams that involved invites that were fake. Make sure that your virus software is up to date and be cautious about clicking links that were sent to you from someone that you don’t know.

Have Fun

Once you have received a coveted invitation to Pinterest, have fun setting up your categories and make them personal. It is a good idea to log in using your Twitter or Facebook account because it allows you to easily locate your friends and family who use Pinterest. You can share your ideas with them and get inspiration from the pictures they post. Some people use Pinterest primarily for ideas about organizing their homes and recipes, while others use the site for gathering ideas while planning a birthday party or wedding. It is a great organizational tool as well as a fun way to share information.
