News Over the Years – Hindsight or Warnings?
OK, today I decided to Google Jimmy Saville in the news, but not recent news (clouded with all the claims of child abuse etc.) but of older news, to see if there were any warnings. There were! Here i will simply quote from news articles, give the date and link so you can read the rest. A chilling history really. Decades of community and charity work managed to create a good cover though.
The Guardian, 11 April 2000
“Savile emerges as loveably strange at best; an egomaniacal, evasive bruiser at worst.” Tuesday 11 April 2000, The Guardian. http://guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,3604,178381,00.html
The Guardian was probably referring to his previous career as a wrestler when they said bruiser, but the writer must have got the impression that his was a bit rough outside of the ring too. Something echoed recently by one of his victims who said that she and her friend, who were both 14 years old at the time, were shocked at his strength – neither of them could escape.
The Lawyer, 17 March 2008
“Savile, the star of children’s television favourite Jim’ll Fix It, decided to start proceedings against the Rupert Murdoch paper after a series of articles linked the former Radio One DJ with Jersey children’s home Haut de la Garenne.
The police are currently investigating the care home after human remains were found at the residence where children were allegedly tortured and sexually abused.” – The Lawyer, 17 March 2008. http://thelawyer.com/jimmy-savile-turns-to-fox-hayes-for-action-against-the-sun/131780.article
This care home in Jersey hit the headlines a few years ago as reports came about of widespread abuse of the children there. Jimmy Saville was linked by the press, but took action to stop any further reporting of it.
The article, and statement, go on to say:
“He has no recollection of visiting the home over 30 years ago and any such visit would have been unexceptional. Connecting Sir James to events at the home has caused him severe embarrassment and upset.
“The reported events are the antithesis of everything Sir James has worked tirelessly to prevent.”

“I know it all seems trivial and far-fetched, it’s just a simple DJ and boxer meeting a serial killer for some reason, and I’m a world a way from proving any case against Savile, but there’s so much about the bloke that doesn’t add up and this “story” is just so bizarre. ….. And that’s all without getting into the unsavoury rumours about his sex life”. – hirschfelder (Senior Member)
He is describing his thoughts after seeing Jimmy Saville meet with the Yorkshire Ripper, and introduce him to Frank Bruno. He also goes on to mention “an injunction in place against News International prohibiting them from publishing photos of Jimmy at Haute de la Garenne, the child abuse scandal home in Jersey“.
Jimmy Saville met and then became friends with Peter Suctcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper, while doing voluntary work at Broadmoor.

This is the Children Have Rights In Society website.
The title says it all: “Jimmy Saville – Witch hunt or paedophile?”
“In March 1999, Ray Teret, Jimmy Saviles Chauffeur then 57, was jailed for six months for seducing and bedding a 15-year- old schoolgirl. I also discovered that in 1980 Jimmy’s older brother John Henry was fired from his job at a London psychiatric hospital for sexually assaulting a female patient. He was alleged to have lifted the patient’s smock and groped at her breasts in his office.”
The page also shows a photo of Jimmy Saville at the Jersey children’s home.
“Savile had initially denied ever visiting the home, despite this photo clearly showing him there.”
This page has been updated with new information, so not sure how much dates from 2008. The URL: http://chris-ukorg.org/cover-ups/jimmy-saville-witch-hunt-or-paedophile/
The Independent, SATURDAY 01 APRIL 1995
THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY: No 104. Sir Jimmy Savile
He just likes hospitals. “They’re better than discos, those gaffs,” he says. “They’re open 24 hours.”
What a strange reason to like going to hospitals. At the time it seemed like a joke, now we know why he would spend all hours visiting.
He doesn’t really have a home, just seven places around the country where he keeps a bed.
Regarding his love life ….
He has never been in love. His name has never been linked with a woman, although he insists, “I’ve done it in trains, boats, planes…everywhere.”

“I always used to watch Jim’ll fix it when I was small, but that man always gave me the creeps. To be honest, I wouldn’t trust him at all, call it woman’s intuition if you like.”
We should listen to woman’s intuition more often.
