News just in that Apple’s iTunes was used by criminals to launder money from criminal activity. A gang stole around 2000 credit card details and then used these details to buy $700,000 worth iTunes vouchers, which then then used to purchase other goods to help “wash” the stoles credit card money.
The gang of 10 were arrested last year for the offence the the trial has just been held.
Evidence suggests that the gang were operating for 5 months and bought thousands of songs from iTunes. They then made their money from commissions from “selling” the tracks on the stolen cards and also by buying vouchers to use on other items.
