I have always made an effort to be a part of the web community, which for me means allowing people to post on my blogs and also reading and posting comments on others. However, today I was following an interesting conversation only to discover that my comments were being automatically deleted.
I did some testing on my own WordPress / Akismet sites and discovered that not only did my comments go to spam, in some cases they did not even reach the spam queue. It is as if they were caught and deleted before the webmaster would ever see them.
As anyone that runs a WordPress site knows, a comment in the spam queue is as good as deleted as you can get hundreds of long spam comments everyday (all automated) which makes it next to impossible, certainly impracticable, to moderate the spam queue.
To discover that my main email address and domain have been blacklisted is a real shame. I have never spammed another site. But some people see a comment that they do not like and hit spam instead of trash – especially if they feel the person leaving a comment is a competitor.
What is saddest for me is that it means I will have to stop sharing my knowledge in the blogging world (unless I comment under a different name/email and do not share my website). But then why do that? If nobody knows who I am, that is surely deceptive?
Oh well. Goodbye blog world, I leave you today.
